Kelsie Marie Remschel of Gonzales was arrested by Gonzales police on Tuesday, June 25 and has been charged with sale, distribution or display of harmful materials to a minor.

Remschel previously worked as a nurse at Gonzales High School before resigning last week.

According to the Texas Penal Code, “an offense under this section is a Class A misdemeanor unless it is committed under Subsection (b)(3) in which event it is a felony of the third degree.” Depending on how the charge is graded, Remschel is facing up to a $4,000 fine and jail time of up to one year for a Class A Misdemeanor. If it is charged as a Felony of the third degree, it is a fine of up to $10,000 and prison time of up to 20 years.

Police began its investigation on Monday, June 17 and confirmed the existence of explicit videos and pictures on Wednesday, June 19. They also have spoken with one alleged victim, a rising high school sophomore. It’s been alleged there are multiple victims, but GPD has confirmed only one.

In a statement to the Gonzales Inquirer, Gonzales Police Chief Tim Crow requested that if there “are any other victims out there, please come forward and let us know what happened with regards to the case.”

Gonzales Independent School District Superintendent John Schumacher offered the following statement:

“As you know, last week Tuesday she (Remschel) turned in her resignation,” Schumacher said. “It’s really unfortunate, but we are going to let the judicial process be carried out from this point forward. I have no other comment other than that at this time.”

Last week, GISD Superintendent John Schumacher told the Inquirer that once he heard the allegations, the district alerted the Texas Education Agency (TEA) and informed them of a potential incident.

According to Gonzales County Jail, Remschel posted a $4,500 surety bond Wednesday morning.
