Float Fest 2019 canceled, but will return in 2020

In yet another twist in the winding road that has been Float Fest in Gonzales, the 2019 festival has been canceled. A statement released Friday evening cited construction setbacks at the site caused by an “extraordinary amount of rain in May and June” as the reason for the cancellation. A separate press release by Giant Noise, the Austin public relations firm tasked with promoting the event, said “Float Fest will be returning in 2020 to Gonzales, Texas.”

The original statement from Float Fest said “all ticket holders will be 100% refunded for the cost of their tickets. That refund process will be initiated through our ticketing partner, Eventbrite, for all attendees who purchased ticket(s) through their site. There is no action necessary on your end and you can expect to see the refund on your credit/debit card statement within the next 10-14 business days.”

For a 2020 event to take place in Gonzales, the event will have to be granted another mass gathering permit. Gonzales County Judge Pat Davis said, “if they present it to me the same way they presented it this year, without any other changes, as I stated before, I don’t have any reason to deny the permit.”

Davis granted the festival a mass gathering permit of 25,000 people in April, 2019. The decision was made after the Guadalupe County Commissioners denied the permit in January and a Guadalupe County District Judge reaffirmed that decision in April. The festival was previously held at Cool River Ranch in Martindale.

The event was to be held on private property located off Highway 183, near J.B. Wells Park. It was to feature artists such as Ice Cube, Gucci Mane and Major Lazer.

A full statement released by Float Fest on June 21 stated:

“We are extremely saddened to announce today that Float Fest 2019 is being cancelled. This was a difficult decision to make, but due to several recent roadblocks outside of our control and in an effort to do right by our fans, the decision to cancel the event was the best option.

We have been working around the clock to prepare the new festival site in Gonzales, but at this time we don’t feel the grounds are ready to fully showcase everything Float Fest is about. With weather, Gonzales saw an extraordinary amount of rain in May and June. Although the site cleared, the rain created delays of construction. We want to provide a first class experience to our fans, therefore we will be finishing out the site so that it is ready for the festival in 2020.

All ticket holders will be 100% refunded for the cost of their tickets. That refund process will be initiated through our ticketing partner, Eventbrite, for all attendees who purchased ticket(s) through their site. There is no action necessary on your end and you can expect to see the refund on your credit/debit card statement within the next 10-14 business days.

If you have questions about this entire process, please contact us at info@floatfest.net. We are dedicated to answering any questions and concerns that you might have.

We truly love our fans. We appreciate you sticking by us while we work hard to make this right.

Sincerely,

Float Fest”
