Float Fest founder provides more info on festival

Float Fest, the music festival recently announced to be coming to Gonzales in July, brings with it a lot of excitement about its potential economic boon for the city as well as some questions by community members.

Though the supposedly-sinful lyrics will likely go unaccounted for with this year’s headliners including Major Lazer, Gucci Mane and Ice Cube, Float Fest founder Marcus Federman did take time to address some of the other concerns citizens may have.

Federman believes the economic impact for Gonzales will be “significant.” A study conducted by Angelou Economics claimed that the festival generated $12.3 million in total economic impact in 2018 for the San Marcos area.

“We will do another study post event to gauge [the economic impact on Gonzales] exactly,” Federman said.

Federman also said, “we would love to hire as many locals as we can.” Interested candidates are encouraged to reach out to info@floatfest.net. Vendors interested in working at Float Fest should contact vendors@floatfest.net. Volunteers should send inquiries to volunteers@floatfest.net.

The new property is roughly four-times larger than the previous locale in Martindale. It features access to the Guadalupe River, thus eliminating the need for shuttles that carry patrons from the festival grounds to the river.

The festival campgrounds will be held in a peach orchid and individual camping spots will be larger than previous years. Traffic flow should be improved with multiple festival exit points.

“The new site is amazing, and I don’t foresee any hurdles,” Federman said.

In previous years Float Fest partnered with the community for a Keep the River Clean initiative that does clean up work before, during and after the event. The festival has plans to enact a similar policy in Gonzales.

According to the Float Fest website, medical aid will be on-site at the festival grounds. They will be stationed at designated areas listed on the site map.

Tickets are currently on sale with weekend passes starting at $129 and single-day passes starting at $65. For more information visit floatfest.net.
