Elsie Rosalee Smith Johnson

Elsie Rosalee Smith Johnson was born on Feb. 25, 1938 in Gonzales Texas to Nannie B. Allen and A.C. Johnson. She worked as a housekeeper at the Lexington Motel in Gonzales Texas and she was a housekeeper for the Boothe family of Gonzales Texas. 

Rosalee accepted Christ at an early age and was an active member, missionary and faithful member of Greater Webster Chapel AME Church in Gonzales Texas. She was the epitome of unselfishness and she always put others first. She was a fun-loving person who enjoyed dancing and she cherished her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her mother Nannie B. Allen, father A.C. Johnson, husband Vernon Lowell Smith, sister Lillie Mae McKinney; and two sons; Robert Smith and Melvin Smith.

She leaves to cherish her memory: nine children; Donald Smith (Christine), of Gonzales, Texas, Alvin Smith (Deshorn), of Yoakum, Texas, Carolyn Hastings (Reverend Jimmie Hastings), of Gonzales, Texas, Billy Smith (Michelle), of Schulenburg, Texas, Gwendolyn Smith of Gonzales, Texas, Bobby Smith of Gonzales, Texas, Charles Smith (Yevett) of Houston, Texas, Lowella Watson (Clarence), of Humble, Texas, and David Smith (Teresa), of Gonzales, Texas. 

She also leaves to cherish her memory two sisters and four brothers. Alton Allen (Elizabeth) of Gonzales, Texas, A. B. Allen (Mary) of Wharton, Texas, Alta Mae Smith (Otis) of San Antonio, Texas, David Allen of Gonzales, Texas, Melvin Allen of Gonzales, Texas, and Margie Flowers of Houston, Texas.

Last but not least she leaves to cherish 64 grandchildren, 68 great-grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews and a dear friend, Mrs. Shirley Ray Hastings.
