Ella Mozelle Harris Henderson, 90, of Gonzales, Texas, passed away Sunday, Dec. 29, 2019 in Gonzales.  Mozelle was born in Gonzales County on Oct. 20, 1929, the youngest of six children born to Joe Moten Harris and Mamie Caladonia Bost Harris.  She was raised on a farm near Waelder, attended school at Pecan School until fourth grade, then transferred to Waelder, graduating from Waelder High School in 1946.  At an early age, she learned to persevere, as growing up with three older brothers was quite a challenge.

On June 10, 1948, Mozelle married Bill Joe Henderson, also of Waelder, in Luling, Texas.  They made their home in Waelder.  Mozelle was a devoted wife and mother.  She was very involved in the First Baptist Church in Waelder, having taught Sunday School for many years, a member of the Young Homemakers Sunday School Class and served as church secretary.  After their girls were in school, Mozelle became more involved in ranching with her husband.  After his death on Jan. 21, 1983, she continued ranching until 2008.  At that time, she sold her ranch and home in Waelder and moved to Gonzales.  After moving to Gonzales, she transferred her church membership to the First Baptist Church of Gonzales, where she became active in the church sponsored XYZ Club and Joy Bells.  She made new friends both on the XYZ trips and while attending the exercise class at the First United Methodist Church.  Mozelle was an accomplished seamstress, sewing many beautiful garments throughout her lifetime.  She took great pride in keeping her yard immaculate, doing all the work herself, until she was in her eighties.  She was a homemaker who loved to make beautiful candy and bake delicious cookies, especially during the holidays, sharing them with family and friends.

Mozelle is survived by daughters Glynda Henderson Davis and her husband William A. “Buddy” of Eagle Lake and Lauren Henderson Boothe and husband Morgan Barry of Gonzales; step-grandchildren Allison Boothe Davis and husband Dean and Morgan Barry Boothe Jr. and his partner Jennifer Ervin and her son Layton Ervin, all of Gonzales; step-great-grandsons Cade Davis, Cole Boothe and Morgan Boothe.  She is also survived by a sister-in-law Joyce Harris of Gonzales and nieces and nephews.  Mozelle was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brothers Joel Maurice “Tuck” Harris, Howard Leonard “Newt” Harris, Clifton Glenn “Tooter” Harris, Elmo Harris and sister Daisey Olla Harris who both died in early childhood.  Visitation with the family will be on Thursday, Jan. 2, 2020 from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. at Seydler-Hill Funeral Home with Reverend Anthony DuBose Jr. officiating.  Burial will follow in the Hopkinsville Masonic Cemetery in Waelder, where she will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband.  Pallbearers include Morgan Barry Boothe Jr., Dean Davis, Cade Davis, Mike Harris, Allen Taylor and Mike Brzozowski.
