Election results to be certified at Nixon council meeting

Results from Nixon’s May 4 General Election will be canvassed and certified at the city council meeting May 13. There will be one new alderperson joining Nixon’s city council, while two incumbents retained their seats.

Estevan “Steve” Aguirre will join the council after securing a race-high total of 105 votes. Justin B. La Fleur and Mary Ann Fatheree won reelection with 53 and 46 votes respectively. Incumbent alderman Joseph “Joey” Bjorgaard lost his reelection bid, finishing last in the race with 22 total votes.

Other topics to be discussed at the meeting include a potential remodeling of the Nixon Fire and Rescue station, talking with TSG Architects about new city hall and community center buildings and potentially hiring a community management service to plan a grant for new baseball and softball fields.

Council will meet at 5:30 p.m. at Nixon City Hall Ballroom at 100 West Third Street, Nixon, Texas 78140. City council meetings are always open to the public.
