Early voting open Saturday

Early voting for the March 3 primary election is underway and, much like previous years, Gonzales County has a polling location open on the weekend. The Randle Rather Building located at 427 Saint George St. in Gonzales will be open Saturday, Feb. 22 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. This will be the only weekend day and polling location in county that early voting will happen during the primary election cycle.

“We just hope people take advantage of it and come and try the new equipment,” County Elections Clerk Christy Horstman said.

The county voluntarily set this day for early voting, instead being petitioned by the parties for extended weekend hours. If petitioned the polling location must be open for 12 hours, but the parties signed off on the eight-hour Saturday timeframe.

“We’re expecting a large voter turnout, so to give everyone an opportunity to vote that may not be able to come during the weekday, we’re going to be open the Saturday in between early voting,” County Clerk Lona Ackman said.

Voters must be registered to vote in the county and bring an accepted form of identification. Accepted IDs include U.S. Citizens Certificate with a photo, U.S. military ID with photo, Texas elections ID certification, Texas handgun license, U.S. passport book or card, Texas driver’s license and Texas personal ID.
