Deborah (Debbie) Lynn Corley Thomas was called home on April 16, 2020 surrounded by her loving husband, Don Thomas, and daughter Amy Avant. Debbie was born on Feb. 8, 1952 in Houston, Texas to Delmar Russell and Kay Cornelius Corley. Debbie was baptized at a young age and believed in the power of prayer and her Faith in God was always in her heart.

She graduated from North Shore High School in Houston in 1970 and attended school in Knoxville, Tenn., where she received her National Surgical Technology Certification in 1973. She was dedicated to her profession for over 40 years before she retired. Debbie also acquired the Heritage Membership of the Association of Surgical Technology.

Debbie had the privilege of traveling to numerous countries, loved the safari to Africa and especially the cruises with close friends. Her favorite place she would say was to Engineer Pass, Colo. She also lived in Ridgway when she was a teenager with her grandmother. She loved the mountains and always said a beautiful snowfall was breathtaking! Debbie married her high school classmate and friend Don Alan Thomas on Aug. 10, 2013. They resided in Gonzales upon their retirement. She described Don as the most generous, thoughtful and loving person she had ever known.  Debbie profoundly believed that God always has a plan; Debbie and Don finding each other at a crossroads in their life was obviously a blessing for all the family.  There was always compassion, continual laughter, love and faith that filled their hearts and home.

Debbie often said and believed her proudest accomplishment in life was raising her two children Amy and Jody. She enjoyed family time with all the grandchildren and will always be remembered for her great love, joy and devotion to family and close, life-long friends who always remained in her heart. She never met a stranger. Outgoing, a friend for life who had that smile that warmed your heart, was always open in sharing what was hers and caring for others. Most would say Debbie loved, and loved a lot.

Debbie is preceded in death by her parents, Delmar R. Corley and Kay B. Mullins and granddaughter Francesca (Frankie) Giannotti. She is survived by her husband Don, brothers William (Billy) Corley and wife Maridee, Gary Corley and wife Becky; her stepbrothers, David Mullins and wife Patty, Ricky Mullins, Michael Hughey and wife Suzzette, her beloved children Amy Avant and husband Darby, of Brenham, son Jody Polk and wife April, of Bleiblerville.  Also Don's children Brett Thomas and wife Jamie, Camron Thomas and wife Courtney, Zachary Thomas, Trina Mata and husband Jaime. Debbie leaves behind all of her grandchildren, whom she adored more than anything; Chandler Dague and wife Kistian and great-grandson Cayden. Cullen Avant, Garrett and Jayden Polk, Gabriel Giannotti, Julian Giannotti and wife Caroline; grandchildren Taylor, Madison and Jaxon Thomas, Matthew and Micha Mata, and Ethan Thomas, as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.

The family would like to extend a deep and special thank you to Cassandra Hastings, CNA, and Meagan Harrell, RN, of Hospice of South Texas; who cared for and loved Debbie on a daily basis for over the past year.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to her granddaughter’s memorial fund: Francesca (Frankie) Giannotti Memorial fund to benefit future college scholarships.
