David Tovar Cantu, 64, of Smiley passed away Thursday, June 11, 2020. He was born May 30, 1956, in Killeen, Texas, the son of Alejandro and Eugenia Tovar Cantu. He was a retired truck driver and, following in his father’s footsteps, was a Pentecostal minister. He enjoyed western movies, spending time with his family and was known for his great sense of humor.

He is survived by his daughter Amy Torres; sons Edward and David Cantu; sisters Maria Carrizales and husband Anastacio of San Antonio, Esther Nicholson of Branson, Mo., Estella Spain and Ruth Lea both of LaPorte, Amelie Palacios of New Braunfels and Eugenia Ramirez and husband Victor of Smiley; and brothers Edwardo Cantu and Ruben Cantu and wife Lillie all of Splendora. He was preceded in death by his parents and several brothers and sisters.

Visitation will be held Monday, June 15, 2020, from 5-7 p.m. at Seydler-Hill Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 16, at the funeral home. Interment will follow at the St. James Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers include Steven Cantu, Alex Cantu, Jason Torres, Ricky Torres, Edwardo Cantu, and Nick Lopez.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, CDC guidelines will be followed for the safety of everyone including social distancing and facial covering.
