David Guerra

David Guerra, 84, passed away Friday, Sept. 11, 2020. David was born in Gonzales County on Dec. 31, 1935 to Ricardo Guerra and Maria Rios Guerra. He married Mary Jane Castro on July 11, 1959 in Gonzales. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

David was born on the Cannonade Ranch in Gonzales County. As a youth he worked with his family to grow produce that he would bring into town by horseback to sell. David had worked as a tow truck driver, an auto body technician, a foreman in the oil field, driver at Fehner Feed Store for nearly 10 years and worked nearly 20 years at Kaspar Wire Works in Shiner before working as the greenskeeper at Gonzales Independence Golf Course for nearly 15 years. 

He loved the outdoors and keeping himself busy by tinkering with things. He enjoyed dancing with his wife and spending quality with his family. David was always willing to set his own projects aside to help others in need. He always had a welcoming smile and his good heart endeared him to all who knew him.  He led his family with love, his faith, and work ethic and the greatest of these was love.

David Guerra is survived by his adoring family; wife of 61 years, Mary J. Guerra of Gonzales, daughters; Rita Ann Guerra (Arturo Ruiz) of Waelder, Viviana Gallegos (Eric) of Gonzales; son, Rogelio Guerra (Vicky) of Gonzales, sister; Connie Arellano of Ft. Worth, son-in-law; Enrique Licea of Gonzales, grandchildren; Enrique Licea, Jr (Yecencia) of Gonzales, Erica Licea, Laura Guerra, Judith Guerra, Maria and Jordon Guerrero, Louis David Guerrero, Griselda and Tommy DeBerry, Esmeralda and Jose Lerma, and Liberty Belle Gallegos, great-grandchildren; Danilo Rogers, Julian Guerrero, Mia Licea, Gideon Guerrero, Ameriss Guerrero, Julianna Licea, Zayden Lerma, Delilah DeBerry, and Katalina Licea. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Dolores Licea, four great-grandchildren, sisters; Elvira Fonseca, Consuelo Garza, Virginia Lopez, Sara Guerra and Mercedes Rivera, brothers; Felix and Richard Guerra.

The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 14, 2020 with a holy rosary at 7 p.m., all in Seydler-Hill Funeral Home.  A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2020 in St. James Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers: Enrique Licea, Jr., Luis Guerrero, Jr. Rivera, Joseph Reyes, Arnold Guerra, and Jr. Arellano. Honorary pallbearers: Enrique Licea, Eric Gallegos, and Arturo Ruiz. Memorials may be made St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. 

Due to current CDC, State and local mandates, protective measures regarding social distancing, limited attendance capacity, and use of personal protective masks will be required for the visitation, holy rosary, and graveside burial rite. Those remotely symptomatic of COVID-19 are politely asked not to attend.
