Posted

A Red Flag Warning is now in effect for counties along and west of Interstate 35 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Area of Concern:
The greatest area of concern for the lowest humidity values coupled with the strongest northwest winds will be along and west of the I-35 corridor This is where the Red Flag Warning is in effect today from 10 am to 7 pm for Critical Fire Weather Conditions.
For counties east of I-35, elevated to near critical fire weather conditions are expected this afternoon due to the warm and dry conditions.
Threats & Impacts:
Wind: Northwest 15 to 20 mph with gusts of 25 to 30 mph for areas along and west of I-35. Winds will be northwest at 10 to 15 mph elsewhere.
Humidity: As low as 5 to 15% west of I-35; 15 to 20% east of I-35
Impacts: Any fires that develop will spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is strongly discouraged.
Timing and Overview:
Timing: from 10am to 7pm Monday
Overview: Very dry air will move into the region following the passage of a weak cold front. Humidity values will fall during the late morning and afternoon while temperatures increase upper 70s to mid 80s. Gusty northwest winds will also occur. Fine fuels will remain dry given the low amounts of rain over the past several weeks. All combined, these conditions will create critical fire weather conditions for counties within the Red Flag Warning that will lead to fire growth and spread, if one was to occur.
Confidence:
Confidence is High in the Red Flag Warning area (counties along and west of I-35).
Confidence is Moderate to High for elevated to near critical fire weather conditions for counties east of I-35.
