COVID-19 cases increasing in county

Eighteen new cases of COVID-19 were reported in Gonzales County for the week of Oct. 7 through 13, according to Gonzales County Judge Patrick C. Davis. The spike follows weeks of new cases in the single digits, including two each of the past two weeks. Three additional cases of COVID-19 were reported on Wednesday and Thursday.

There are now 25 active cases in the county. The total number of cases in the county is at 1,127, with 1,093 reported as recovered, and nine deaths reported. The difference between newly reported and active cases indicates that at the same time it was reported, one of these cases was also termed “recovered.”

Department of State Health Services data shows this is the largest spike in cases since Aug. 22.

In Trauma Service Area P, COVID-19 hospitalizations have fallen to 4.7% of all hospitalizations in the area.  Of these hospitalizations, 146 are in general beds while 72 are in ICU beds.

Data from the DSHS shows Gonzales Independent School district reported four cases among students for the week that ended Oct. 13. However, the Gonzales Independent School District has reported four cases among students and one among staff as of Monday, Oct. 12. A single case among students was reported by Nixon-Smiley Consolidated Independent School District, and no cases were reported by Waelder ISD.
