Council to meet tonight

Gonzales City Council meets 6 p.m. tonight, Tuesday, December 5, with the first order of business being “Hearing of Residents.” This time is set aside for any person who wishes to address the City Council.

Council is scheduled to move forward from the hearing and approve meeting minutes from the November 14, 2017 called city council meeting and the regular meeting from the same day. Under Resolutions council is set to discuss and consider with possible action to approve the following resolutions: Awarding the Contract for the Gonzales Visitor’s Center to the Gonzales Chamber of Commerce; Accepting the Communication’s Grant Award from the Golden Crescent Regional Planning Commission to the Gonzales Fire Department for the acquisition of Motorola APX 7000XE Digital Portable Radios; Authorizing the appointment of a member to the Gonzales Economic Development Corporation; and Authorizing the Edward’s Association to Temporarily Close City Streets to Hold the Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Parade on January 15, 2018.

Under Ordinances council is slated to discuss and consider, with possible action the approval of the following ordinances: Granting One Gas, Inc. a Fifteen-Year Non-Exclusive Franchise Agreement to install, operate and maintain a gas distribution system for the sale of gas to customers and the public generally (Second Reading); and, Amending Code of Ordinances Chapter 4 Business Regulations, Article 4.500 Taxicabs.

Under Staff and Board Reports, council expects to receive the city Financial Report for the Month of November 2017

The City Manager Report will present to Council the accomplishments of staff during the month of November 2017

Council is set to enter into an Executive session with the city attorney in the following matters: Re-Estate of J.B. Wells, Jr., deceased, in the County Court of Gonzales; The statutory process and legal requirements for calculating and adopting an effective and rollback tax rate using a maintenance and operations rate calculation and a debt rate. Council will also use this closed session to deliberate the purchase, exchange, lease, or value of real property - St. George Street property and unopened city streets. Council is also slated to deliberate the appointment, employment, evaluation, reassignment, duties, discipline, or dismissal of a public officer - City Manager’s Contract.

Following Executive Session council will return to the public forum to take action on any matter, as necessary.

Gonzales City Council meets for a regularly-scheduled meeting the first Tuesday of each month. The council meets Municipal Building 820 St. Joseph Street, in Council Chambers.
