Commissioners draw up contract with film company

GONZALES — County commissioners on Monday discussed with action a proposed filming request from AMC Studios and Stalwart Films to take place in Gonzales County.

In the coming months, AMC and Stalwart will be shooting episodes of the second season of “The Son,” starring Pierce Brosnan, on and around the Slayden Bridge on Highway 183 north of town.

County Judge David Bird said a contract agreement to use the property for filming is being drawn up.

“It involves making sure all the neighbors are contacted, getting the insurance policies straight, making sure the county is covered,” Bird said.

Unconfirmed reports indicate that an injury to one of the series’ cast members has caused a delay in the filming. Bird said when the county receives a specific date for shooting, then they will make the agreement for that time.

Commissioners also voted to post a “No Fishing off Bridge” sign on the Oak Forest Bridge at the Guadalupe River on CR 143. The decision was made to prevent anglers from risking injury while fishing on the road.

Pct. 3 Commissioner Kevin LaFleur said that residents in the area had expressed concerns that people fishing off the bridge could get run over, but that no such incidents had been reported.

“It’s just a safety issue,” LaFleur said.
