Commissioners court walks back changes to Constable budget

At the Special Called Meeting of the Gonzales County Commissioner’s court on Monday, August 17, 2020, County Commissioners and County Judge Patrick C. Davis approved a $0.50 pay increase for all county employees, and walked back previous approvals to changes in the Gonzales County Constable structure.

Previously, the Commission had voted to make changes to the duties assigned to each Constable within the county and adjust their salaries to be even across the board. However, after Constable Derek Johnson, Precinct 3, told the Commission he was not notified of any changes being made to the budget outside of what he had requested, and input from Precinct 1 Constable John Moreno, these changes were voted out.

Other budget items which were discussed include:

• Approval of administrative fee for election services contract in compliance with Texas Election Code.
• Approval for purchase of a 2020 Caterpillar 120 LVR Motorgrader.
• Approval of bills.
