City council wrap

GONZALES — There wasn't much heavy lifting at last week’s Gonzales city council meeting. But City Manager Tim Patek did address members on a couple of pending ordinances.

Regarding the new city ordinances on junked cars and high grass, Patek said that staff is getting started on both. For junked cars, they are following the due process which begins with notifying property owners that have nuisance vehicles on their lots. Letters will be sent out as deemed necessary.

As for the tall grass ordinance, officials have been holding off on enforcement due to the recent rainfall. As imagined, that has led to an abundance of fast growing grass in some locations, and Patek said that they will give property owners time to get to it. If not, notifications will be sent out, as needed.

Patek also advised council that quotes have been received for the requested economic impact study. Those would range from $5,800-9,600.
