Christine Orenda Miller, 87, of Gonzales, passed away Thursday, October 6, 2016. Christine was born November 28, 1928 in Gonzales to Marlin Clarence Hagen and Edith Holt Hagen. She married Robert Wesley Miller on June 8, 1946 in Gonzales. Christine had been a long time and faithful member of Eastside Baptist Church.

Christine loved square dancing, working in her yard and especially mowing her lawn which she continued until the age of 86. Her wardrobe was complete only through personal shopping excursions to Bond Worth in San Marcos; a store which she concluded must be half hers since she shopped there so often through the years. Christine was the matriarch of the family, she never wavered on issues that she firmly believed in and she was very clear in sharing her beliefs. She loved to host Thanksgiving in her home for her family, she happily prepared every course of the meal much to the delight of her family. Eventually her daughter mastered all her recipes and began shouldering the cooking for Thanksgiving herself and her son mastered her recipe for chicken and dumplings. Christine will be remembered as a loving, kind and considerate mother. She was a welcoming “Nana” willing to give safe harbor to her grandchildren whenever they didn’t get their way at home. Christine inspired her children and grandchildren never to waver in their faith and love of the Lord, for she knew well “that we walk by faith, not by sight.”

Christine Orenda Miller is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Marla and Eddie Malatek, Jr., son and daughter-in-law, Robert Wayne and Connie Miller, sister, Brenda Kay Hagen all of Gonzales, grandchildren, J.R. Miller (Keri), J.W. Miller, Wendy Janca, great-grandchildren, Alexis Cantu, Dawson Janca, and Wesley Miller. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother, Marlin Bruce Hagen and a granddaughter, Holly Malatek Cantu.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, October 8, 2016 in Gonzales Memorial Park with Fr. Paul Raaz officiating. Pallbearers: Robert Wayne Miller, J.R. Miller, J.W. Miller, Eddie Malatek, Jr., Taz Watson and Dawson Janca. The family will receive friends from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Seydler-Hill Funeral Home.
