Carolina Gutierrez Guerra, 80, of Gonzales, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Aug. 27, at her home surrounded by her loving family. Carolina was born May 15, 1937 in Waelder, Texas to Augustine and Josephina Gutierrez. She married her life-long mate, Richard Guerra, Jr. on January 5, 1955.

Carolina was a long-time resident of Gonzales where she lived since leaving her childhood home in Waelder at the age of 18 after her marriage to Richard. She was an avid gardener and could be found outside in her yard at any time of the day, in any weather. She was determined to go to every yard sale and store to find a good bargain. Carolina had a sweet tooth like no other and she could not stay away from candies and cakes. She enjoyed watching and reading the news as well as local gossip. Carolina loved to be where music was playing and where she could dance; a trait passed on to multiple generations. She was a loving wife and devoted mother/grandmother. Carolina was very strong-willed her whole life until the very end.

Carolina is survived by her two sisters Hermenia Estrada from Florida and Hortensia Esparza from Waelder and her eight children: Sons Arnold Guerra (Ruth), Antonio Guerra, Steve Guerra (Tina), Augie Guerra (Vickie) all of Gonzales, Joe Richard Guerra (Linda) of Seguin, Frank Guerra (Sheena) of San Antonio, Genaro Guerra of Florida, her only daughter Gloria Gonzalez (Lucio) of Marble Falls; grandchildren Elizabeth Torres, Alison Rodriguez, Alexis Guerra, Paige Guerra, Brittney Guerra, Matthew Guerra, Isabella Guerra, Clarissa Guerra, Mia Guerra; seven great grandchildren; two great, great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Carolina is preceded in death by her husband, Richard Guerra, and her parents.

Services are as followed: Rosary is from 9:30 AM until 10:00 AM on Saturday, September 2, 2017 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Gonzales. The funeral mass will follow the Rosary at 10:00 AM on Saturday, also at the Church. Reverend Paul Raaz will be officiating. The burial will be held at a later date for a private family ceremony.

In lieu of flowers, family is asking that you make contributions in Carolina’s name to Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 417 N College Street, Gonzales, TX 78629.
