Carmen Almaguer, 73, of Gonzales, Texas passed away on Monday, Sept. 11, at Methodist Hospital in San Antonio, Texas.

Funeral Mass is under the direction Buffington Funeral Home and will be held on Friday, Sept. 15, at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Gonzales, Texas with Father Paul Raaz officiating. Interment will follow at Saint James Catholic Cemetery. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 14, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Deacon Alfonso Moreno officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, Sept. 14, from 1-5 p.m. at Buffington Funeral Home.

Carmen was born on August 6, 1944 in GTO, Mexico. He was the son of Enrique and Arcadia (Hernandez) Almaguer. He married Rosa Salazar on January 4, 1975 in GTO Mexico. He was employed by Southern Clay Products for 35 years. He was also a ranch hand for many years. He was a great story teller who also liked playing jokes on others. He liked riding around town checking out the sights. If Carmen walked behind you, you were almost assured of getting the dreaded “knuckle rub” across the top of your head. He enjoyed drinking his beer and playing with his dogs, John and Wayne. Carmen used to enjoy going hunting and fishing when he was younger. Carmen was a hardworking man who loved and cared for his family.

Carmen is survived by his wife, Rosa, ten sons & daughters; Janie Sirilo and her husband, Alfonso of Schulenburg, Texas, Javier Almaguer and his wife, Yolanda of Gonzales, Texas, Maria Coronado and her husband, Felipe of Austin, Texas, Sergio Almaguer of Gonzales, Texas, Carmen “Mito” Almaguer of Leander, Texas, Angela Sanchez of Leander, Texas, Araceli Almaguer of Leander, Texas, Edward Pechin of Leander, Texas, Carlos Almaguer and Jessie Almaguer, eight brothers & sisters; Tomas Almaguer and his wife, Nina of Mexico City, Mexico, Celso Almaguer of Gonzales, Texas, Maugro Almaguer and his wife, Imelda of Gonzales, Texas, Javier Almaguer and his wife, Mary Lou of Gonzales, Texas, Enrique Almauer, Jr. and his wife, Rosa of Gonzales, Texas, Teresa Almaguer of Mexico City, Mexico, Rafaela Almaguer and her husband, Concho Mendez of Monterrey, Mexico. Jacinta Cardenas and her husband, Reyes of Gonzales, Texas, fifteen grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; Enrique and Arcadia Almaguer, two brothers; Salomon Almaguer, Maximino Almaguer, and one sister-in-law; Annie Almaguer.

Pallbearers for Mr. Almaguer will be; Alfonso Sirilo, Jr., Jonathon Sirilo, Noah Sirilo, Isaac Almaguer, Christian Coronado, Marcus Almaguer, Daniel Almaguer, Ramiro Almaguer, Honorary Pallbearers will be; Carlos Almaguer, Jr., Katherine Perez, Kristine Taylor, Marisa Coronado, Venancia Almaguer, Katniss Pechin, Clarissa Almaguer, and his great-grandchildren.
