SHINER ST. PAUL

Cardinals look to clean up Week 2 mistakes

Posted

Shiner St. Paul overcame their mistakes their first week of playing football in a 49-28 victory. But in their game against Victoria St. Joseph, St. Paul head coach Jake Wachsmuth noted that two key turnovers erased what could have been two touchdown drives.

“We knew we were going to play a really good team,” Wachsmuth said, “and when you play a good team, your mistakes get maximized. The week before against Yorktown we turned the ball over three times, but it didn’t hurt us.”

Their mistakes against St. Joseph did hurt in their 33-14 loss.

This week, Wachsmuth hopes the team learns from their mistakes, as they take on the Austin Saints at home for homecoming.

On offense, everything runs through the Austin Saints quarterback. The Saints are a spread team who take advantage of big plays. Last week, the offense was stymied a bit in their 16-13 victory, but their 38-35 week one victory was a blueprint to how well the team can play on that side of the ball

Defensively, the Cardinals expect a seven or eight-man front like last season’s team, especially with their run-heavy offense.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
