Bobby Ray Jones, age 68, was born Nov. 27, 1951 in Taylor, Texas to Henry Jones Jr. and Annie Dorsey Jones. He departed to be with his heavenly father on September 9, 2020. Bobby grew up in Elgin, Texas and graduated from Elgin High School in 1969. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1970, where he served as Communications Center Specialist in Fort Gordon, Georgia and Germany. After an honorable discharge, Bobby settled down in Austin, Texas gaining employment as an Assistant Teller/Vault Manager at Austin National Bank. Later, he moved on to a career as an Accounting Specialist with the Texas Department of State Health Services until he retired in 2009.

Bobby accepted Christ at an early age and was a long-time member of Greater Swenson Grove Missionary Baptist Church, serving faithfully as choir member, usher, deacon, member of the brotherhood, and driving the church van until his illness prevented him from serving.

Bobby enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, and all sports. He was an avid Cowboys and Spurs fan. He attended the State UIL Boys Basketball Tournament every year with his cousin/best friend John Collins. Bobby always had a love for cars, so he looked forward to attending the NHRA National Car Races in Ennis, Texas each year with John and his brother-n-law Odis Owens. Other family members gradually started to join them at the event, ultimately turning the NHRA Races into an annual family tradition. Bobby enjoyed working in his yard and garden, making sure his lawn was always immaculate and that his garden produced plenty of fresh, organic vegetables for dinner time and to gladly share with family, church members, and friends.

Bobby is preceded in death by his parents Henry Jones Jr. and Annie Metra Jones; sisters Maryland Jones and Gloria Owens; and brother John Henry Jones. He leaves to cherish his loving memories: his wife Sharon Jones, daughters; LaMonica Jones-Gooden (Chris), Kiawn Anderson, and TamAri Jones, Step-daughters; Jessica Howell (Elliott) and Jennifer Williams, brother; Al Emmett Jones (Patsy), sister; Joy Bell Ray, aunts; Bettye Jones and Lessie Jones, grandchildren; DiAndre Jones, Jamar Gooden, Imani Gooden, Joshua Anderson, Kalynn Zimdars, Juleesah Williams, Jamison Howell and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Bobby touched the lives of many people and will forever be remembered for his kind and caring heart, warm friendly personality, generosity, and wonderful sense of humor.
