Apaches win top awards at powerlifting meet

GIDDINGS — Gonzales traveled to Giddings for their first powerlifting meet of the season as multiple athletes came away with top finishes in their weight class.

On the Lady Apaches side of the meet, one girl came away with first place while two came with second place finishes and another came away with third.

Cristal Garcia took first in the 181-weight class with her total lift of 610 pounds. Her squat was 235 pounds, bench press was 110 pounds and her dead lift was 265 pounds.

Allyssa De Luna took second in the 132-pound weight class with her total lift of 510 pounds. Smithville’s Claire Courtemanche had a total lift of 620 pounds. De Luna’s splits were 210-85-215.

Khelsea Cray came in second in the 148-pound weight class with her total lift of 755 pounds. Her splits were 300-130-325. Beating her out was Bastrop Cedar Creek’s Katie Morrison who finished out with 760 pounds. Asianique Thompson and Amberleigh Watson scratched in the same weight class.

Sydney Clack came in third in the 259-pound weight class. She totaled 535 pounds with splits of 220-110-205. Topping her were Cedar Creek’s Mackenzie Lang with 890 pounds and Smithville’s Alyana Ramos with 545 pounds.

On the boys’ side, Sergio Torres took third in the 165-pound weight class with his total lift of 940 pounds. His splits were 350-215-375. Tristen Cernosek took seventh in the same weight class with his total of 630 (splits of 230-125-275). Alex Ortiz scratched.

Meanwhile, Jimmy Bustos placed third in the 220-pound weight class with his total coming out to 905 pounds. His splits were 375-230-300. Vicente Reyna placed fourth with his lifts of 325-195-325 for a total of 845 pounds. Brenden Rodriguez took sixth with his 720-pound total, getting 270-185-265.

Trent Wilkerson scratched in the 242-pound class, Nick Ramirez scratched in the 275-pound class and Juan Licea scratched in the super heavyweight class.

The Apaches travel to Smithville this Saturday for their next meet.
