Apaches promote from within to name new head coach

The Apaches athletic program found their guy after head boys basketball coach A.J. Irwin made his decision to depart to a different program.

Assistant coach Alec Paramski has been promoted to head coach, following a trend that Gonzales Athletic Director Mike Waldie believes is an important one for the Apaches program.

"Loyalty is key to me, the older I get in this profession the more important it has become," Waldie said. "My goal is for our staff members to strive for excellence in this profession and hopefully that pays off for us here in Gonzales as well. We are going to lose good people because we will hire strong coaches. Promotion from within will be my first goal every time if we are doing things right and that person is here."

This will be Paramski's third year with the Apaches where he's served as first assistant in basketball and assistant coach at football and baseball.

Originally from Illinois, the newly promoted head coach came to Texas to escape the cold as well as learn all he can to become a better coach during his time in this highly competitive state. Before taking the job here in Gonzales, Paramski served as assistant coach in Flour Bluff, under the now current president of the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches (TABC).

"Coach Paramski is very loyal, good with kids, a strong disciplinarian and I felt under the timing, the best hire for our basketball program," Waldie concluded. "I am extremely excited to work with him and the kids will have someone to push them everyday to be their best."
