Apaches host first meet of the season

GONZALES — The Gonzales Apaches opened up their cross-country season hosting their annual meet at Independence Park on Saturday, as teams from around the area including Nixon-Smiley and Shiner St. Paul took on the three-person relay races. The varsity races were six miles total, as each runner had two one-mile legs in the race, while the junior varsity teams ran a total of three miles.

The Lady Apaches were successful Saturday, with the varsity team taking second while four JV Lady Apache teams made top 10, including a team taking first in the relay. Meanwhile, one of boys team took on the JV race, placing second behind Lockhart.
