Anita Blundell Ly, born July 27, 1939, and peacefully passed away on March 1, 2020 at Memorial Herman Hospital in Houston, Texas after a long illness centered around an infected heart. She was 80 years old.

Anita Lea Blundell was the sole daughter of Alton and Annie Blundell of Waelder, Texas. She became a Registered Nurse after having obtained her nursing education in 1960 from the Seton School of Nursing in Austin, Texas.

Anita met Se Ly in Austin, Texas, where Se was obtaining a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Texas. They were married on Jan. 5, 1962 in Austin, Texas. Within a month after becoming married, Anita and Se left the United States to travel to Se’s country of origin, Cambodia, where they took up residence in the capitol city of Phnom Penh where Se worked for the Royal Dutch Shell Company. While in Phnom Penh over nine years, Anita gave birth to three children, Gary, Randy and Nina, in that order.

The Vietnam War forced the family’s early evacuation from Cambodia in 1971, back to Waelder, Texas where Anita began working as a nurse at the Gonzales Hospital with newborn babies in the nursery. Se had to remain behind in Cambodia before he could rejoin his family in Waelder, Texas in 1972.

Se obtained a position with Shell Oil Company in 1973, and moved the entire family to Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. Then in 1974, Shell prompted the family’s move to Los Angeles, Calif., and again later the same year to Houston, Texas. In retirement, after her adult children long left the nest, Anita and Se moved to Montgomery, Texas to enjoy living on the shores of Lake Conroe.

A public viewing will be held on Wednesday, March 4 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Seydler-Hill Funeral Home at 906 St. Paul St, Gonzales, Texas, 980-672-3232, and all of her friends and family are invited to it and the burial service.

A graveside service will be conducted by her relative, Ray Blundell, at Thompsonville Cemetery on March 5, 2020 at 11 a.m., off of County Road 443, near the small town of Thompsonville, Texas.
