Alton Sanford Kiefer

Alton Sanford Kiefer, 93, of Gonzales, Texas passed away on Tuesday, April 9 at The Heights of Gonzales in Gonzales, Texas.

Funeral services are under the direction of Buffington Funeral Home in Gonzales, Texas and will be held on Wednesday, April 17 at Buffington Funeral Home Chapel at 10 a.m. with Reverend Robert Ramirez of Eastside Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow at Gonzales Memorial Park Cemetery in Gonzales, Texas. Visitation will be on Tuesday, April 16 at Buffington Funeral Home from 4-8 pm.

Alton was born on Sept. 5, 1925 in Gonzales, Texas. He was the son of Sanford Ben and Teresa (Urban) Kiefer. Alton graduated from Dilly High School in Dilly, Texas in 1943. Alton married Juanita Pohl on Feb. 1, 1945 in Dilly, Texas. He was a farmer/rancher as well as a lineman for GVEC. He served on Gonzales County Soil Conservation Committees. He won numerous awards for his agricultural skills. Alton was a member of Eastside Baptist Church.

Alton is survived by one daughter; Mary Kiefer Smith of Austin, Texas, one son: James Kiefer and his wife, Margaret of Pelican Lake, Minnasota, two grandchildren: Rachael Spall and her husband, Tom of Brenham, Texas, Chris Kiefer and his wife, Lynn of Titus, Florida, and two great-grandchildren: Chloe and Ava Spall. He was preceded in death by his parents: Sanford and Teresa Kiefer, and his wife, Juanita Kiefer.
