GONZALES — Allen Linebrink has been named as the new fulltime administrator of the Gonzales Emergency Medical Services (EMS).

On Tuesday night, the Gonzales County Emergency Medical Services board of directors voted unanimously to name Linebrink the permanent administrator of EMS after a lengthy executive session. Linebrink replaces James Russell, who was fired by the board earlier in the summer for alleged financial mismanagement.

The EMS board also spent a lot of time discussing the medical director position of EMS. Dr. Bob Williamson is the current medical director, and he told the EMS board there is no written job description for the position. Williamson said he has worked at times for no pay in the position, and currently makes less than $400 per month. Williamson added that he incurs monthly expenses with regard to licensing and training, and asked the EMS board to increase his monthly salary to $1,000 per month. After a lot of discussion, the board took the request under advisement and did not take any action on his request on Tuesday night.

Administrator Linebrink updated the board on the Seguin accounting firm that has been hired to handle accounting for the EMS. Linebrink said “things are coming together” and a deposit of $63,000 due to collection efforts is pending. Linebrink also noted that efforts to reconcile credit card and bank accounts are ongoing.

Board attorney Jackie Williamson informed the board that the Articles of Incorporation and By-Laws are being amended and updated. She reported she is in contact with the state to get the necessary changes made. One change specifically discussed was making the board an 11-member with three-year staggered terms so that there are always experienced board members returning.

The next regular meeting of the EMS board is Tuesday, August 28.
