Active cases of COVID-19 drop to two in county

Between Sept. 15 and Sept. 23, 16 new cases of COVID-19 were reported in Gonzales County. The county currently has two active cases.

According to a statement issued by Gonzales County Judge Patrick C. Davis, the total number of confirmed cases increased by 223 due to a backlog of cases being released.

The 223 older cases were mainly from June and were not reported to public health by healthcare providers. Davis said this did not result in a delay of individuals being notified of their test results and followed up with by the Department of State Health Services.

“Region 8 has identified a large number of electronically reported files in the Texas Health Trace (THT) system that have been added to today’s daily case count reports,” Davis said. “Some of these reports have been delayed due to issues with electronic reporting systems that have been identified and corrected by DSHS.”

The data has been reviewed and classified by DSHS Region 8, which encompasses Gonzales, and a majority of these cases are no longer considered active.

The 13 cases which were reported the same day were all newly reported cases, including those within the backlogged cases which were still deemed “active.”

This brings the total number of COVID-19 cases within the county to 1,077, with two active, and 1,066 recovered based on the DSHS’s time-estimation system. Nine deaths have been reported to county officials, although DSHS data shows 16 reported deaths in the county related to COVID-19.
