A&A Barbecue now serving in Shiner

Antiques, Art and Beer is a Shiner business and cultural institution.

Now it has become the home of A&A Barbecue out of Shiner.

For many months, A&A has been serving up brisket, ribs, sausage and other fixings on the back patio of Antiques, Art and Beer.

Owned by Alvin Brown and his son-in-law Anton Dews, A&A sets up shop every other Saturday at Antiques and offers a variety of different meats and combination plates to the general public.

“We started in September of 2017, the weekend right after (Hurricane) Harvey,” Brown said from the patio last weekend. “I started cooking a long time ago because I love cooking and I’ll cook anytime. I had been cooking every year at the Shiner 4th of July event for the past 10 to 15 years, and people loved our barbecue and told us we should do this as a business. Well, here we are.”

According to Brown, Beverly, who owns Antiques, has been after him for years to bring his tasty barbecue for years. Finally, Brown relented, and he and his son-in-law are now an every-other-week fixture on the back patio in Shiner.

“Beer and barbecue go together,” Dews said. “It’s a natural. We have a lot of weddings and other events that we cater or cook at, so we agreed to do this every other week and see how it goes.”

“So far, it’s gone really well,” he added.

On Saturday, people from all over Lavaca and Gonzales Counties made a special trip to try A&A’s wares. One couple drove all the way from San Antonio just to get Brown’s brisket and sausage.

“I enjoy this—listening to people,” Brown said. “I enjoy meeting all the people, talking to them and making them happy with our food. It makes me happy and proud.”

A&A Barbecue will be back at Antiques on Saturday, June 8.
