3rd Annual fishing tournament raises funds for Catholic school

A large crowd of supporters attended the 3rd annual Stastny Hacek Fishing Tournament held on July 11-12, at the beautiful Goose Island State Park in Rockport, Texas. Many fishing enthusiasts including men, women, and children arrived on Friday evening for a delicious meal prepared by the Shiner KCs, consisting of pork steaks with all the trimmings. The teams were given time to sign in and purchase raffle tickets for the 14 donated prizes. A Calcutta raffle was also held that evening, generating numerous funds for the tournament.

The competition was limited to six people per boat (four adults maximum) and kids age 16 and under were able to fish free on each team. Fishing started at 5 a.m. Saturday with weigh-in from 3 to 4:30 p.m. The generous fishermen donated several of the fish caught and enjoyed a great dinner prepared by the Shiner KCs and other volunteers. After the meal, winners in all categories were announced and raffle prizes were presented.

Proceeds from the fundraiser are directed to the religious education endowment fund and benefit the Shiner Catholic School. Chairman for the event was Greg Patek, who was assisted by a tournament committee comprised of several men. Thanks to everyone who helped make this year's tournament a huge success, the 27 teams who fished, the 14 raffle donors, and to the generous sponsors whose monetary donations made this event possible.
