2nd Annual Come and Taste It Craft Beer Festival set for April

GONZALES — In card games, there is a saying that goes “See one, play one.”

In that vein, this weekend there is a car show festival in town, so the Gonzales Inquirer is pleased to play its own festival card, the second annual Come and Taste It Craft Beer Festival.

“On behalf of the staff of the Gonzales Inquirer, I am proud to announce that we will once again be hosting this major event in the city of Gonzales,” said Inquirer publisher Terry Fitzwater. “Last year’s event was a rousing success, with people coming from all over Texas to be a part of the festival. We had people from Houston, Dallas, El Paso, New Braunfels, San Antonio, Corpus Christi and even from Oklahoma and Louisiana attend the event.

“In addition to bringing people to Gonzales to show off our city and what this area has to offer, we are proud to announce that once again the Inquirer will be donating net proceeds to Project 2030 at Victoria College Gonzales Center. Project 2030 is designed to create scholarships and eventually an endowment to provide tuition for local students to get their education paid for at our local campus. It’s a win-win for the college, the city and all of Gonzales County.”

The Come and Taste It Craft Beer festival will be held on Friday, April 26 and Saturday, April 27 on Confederate Square in downtown Gonzales. Shiner Beer has once again stepped forward to be the major sponsor of the event, with Hartman Distributing out of Victoria, Texas serving as a major co-sponsor. Like the inaugural event in 2018, there will be a VIP event on Friday night from 6-9 p.m. Patrons will receive souvenir mugs and swag and will be able to sample the full line of Shiner beers, Coors products, some wine from a Texas winery and taste food from Gonzales’ businesses and restaurants. There will be entertainment in the gated beer tent area as well.

Saturday will have a different look than last year’s event. In 2018, there was a wine festival and small art show outside the beer tent last year that Main Street put on. Due to the heavy schedule of events that Main Street is involved in, they have decided they do not have enough man power to host that part of the event in 2019.

There will be wine available, however, inside the tent. Up to four Texas wineries will be located inside the tent, and there will be food available this year inside the gated area.

On Saturday, the tent will open at 1 p.m. and will be open to 10 p.m. There will be a large number of craft breweries available for sampling and tasting, including Shiner, Coors, Goliad, Bells, Thirsty Planet, Seguin Brewing and many more. Starting a little later in the afternoon, there will be three different bands performing on the Stewart Trucking main stage until the tent closes.

Local sponsors already lined up for the event include David Stewart Trucking, Flare Energy, Kenneth Stewart Pumps, Mark Preval Insurance and a few others who will be announced following board of directors’ approvals.

Tickets will be available for purchase beginning the week of Feb. 11. VIP passes are $50 and are good for both Friday night and Saturday. Saturday only passes are $25. Tickets will be available for purchase at the Gonzales Inquirer office at 622 St. Paul Street or by calling the Inquirer office at 830-672-2861.
