Lady Cards go unbeaten in district play once again

For the third year in a row, the St. Paul volleyball team is a district champion.

For the third year in a row, the Lady Cardinals also went undefeated in league play as they finished their run at district perfection with a 3-0 win at Austin Waldorf Tuesday at Waldorf School in Austin. The scores were 25-15, 25-20, 25-18.

St. Paul (21-6, 12-0 in TAPPS District 5-2A) will receive a bye in the bi-district round of the TAPPS 2A state playoffs. The Lady Cardinals face the winner between the fourth-place team out of 5-2A and the third-place team out of 6-2A in the area round at St. Paul Catholic School at a time and date to be determined.

Mary Adamek (11 assists, team-high 2 aces, 2 digs), Kourtney Knesek (team-high 16 assists, 7 digs, team-high 2 aces, 2 kills), Madison Kurtz (team-high 13 digs), Morgan Long (team-high 21 kills, 12 digs, ace), Alexa Schaefer (team-high 13 digs, 11 kills, ace) and Samantha Siegel (team-high 2 blocks, 2 digs) led the way for St. Paul.

Katie Denson (kill, dig), Katelynn Leist (5 assists, 2 kills, 2 digs), Kylie Natal (3 digs) and Jacy Pawelek (2 kills, assist, block, dig) also contributed for the Lady Cardinals.

Cuero 3, Gonzales 1

Cuero completed a season-series split with Gonzales as the Lady Gobblers defeated the Lady Apaches, 3-1, Tuesday at Gonzales High School. The scores were 25-18, 25-19, 16-25, 25-21.

Carly Bozka (team-high 40 digs, team-high 2 aces, kill), Kiley Braune (team-high 19 assists, 11 digs), Kendall Fougeret (6 kills, 3 digs, team-high 2 blocks), Cassidy LaFleur (team-high 19 assists, 6 digs, kill) and Allison Raley (team-high 11 kills, 5 digs, team-high 2 aces, team-high 2 blocks) led the way for Gonzales (10-22, 1-7 in 26-3A). Lindsey Akers (9 digs, 6 kills, assist), Molly Barnick (2 digs, kill), Danyelle Glass (10 kills, dig), Morgan Simper (13 digs) and Shayla Simper (18 digs, 8 kills, ace) also contributed.

The Lady Apaches host Giddings at 5 p.m. today in their home finale.

East Bernard 3, Shiner 1

Class 2A East Bernard picked up a 3-1 nondistrict win against Shiner Tuesday at Shiner High School. The scores were 25-13, 22-25, 25-22, 25-20.

Amanise Coleman (8 kills, team-high 6 blocks), Lauren Oden (team-high 23 digs, 5 assists, 4 kills, 3 blocks, ace), Julianna Rankin (team-high 12 kills, 8 digs, ace, block) and Kristin Schacherl (team-high 30 assists, 6 digs, team-high 5 aces, 2 blocks) led the way for the Lady Comanches. Emmalie Berkovsky (ace, assist, kill), Tabitha Blaschke (6 kills, 2 blocks), Meagan Chumchal (16 digs, ace), Tamara Hajek (ace) and LaNeshia Hunt (13 digs, 8 digs, assist, block) also contributed.

Shiner (22-14, 9-1 in 26-A) visits Ganado at 4 p.m. today.
