Junior high girls finish first, boys take fourth at golf tournament

SAN MARCOS — The Gonzales boys’ and girls’ golf teams traveled to San Marcos to participate in a nine-hole tournament at Quail Creek on Monday, April 25, with the Lady Apaches taking first place and the Apaches taking fourth.

The Lady Apaches team took first overall with their total score at 229 strokes, edging out Fredericksburg who took second with 234 strokes. Also at the course were Seguin, San Marcos, Luling, Lockhart and Navarro.

Leading the way was Kiley Allen with 49 strokes, good for second medalist. Ashlynn Stewart was right behind at third medalist with her 52 score. Other golfers in the first-place team include Sam Barnick with 63, Bre Wolff at 65 and Hope West at 65. Abby Hicks also finished the front tees with a score of 70.

For the boys, Mason Richter led the way taking first place as he shot a 35. Jaydyn Lookabill shot a 58, Brayden Watson shot a 63, Kobe Schwausch a 64 and Mark Burek a 65.

The team finished fourth with a score of 220, beating out Navarro at 235, Lockhart at 240 and San Marcos at 244. Up top were Fredericksburg at 177, Seguin #1 at 202 and Seguin #2 at 211.
