Awards keep piling up for Cecil Johnson.

Johnson’s latest award was the District 26-3A Offensive MVP, which he received Monday. The senior running back from Gonzales also was named the Built Ford Tough Player of the Week for his Week Seven performance against Giddings when he ran for 259 yards and five touchdowns in the Apaches’ 43-23 win over the Buffaloes.

Johnson’s senior year was one to remember as he ran for 2,016 yards and 25 touchdowns in nine games. He finished his varsity career with 3,717 yards and 39 touchdowns.

In addition to Johnson’s Offensive MVP award, Gonzales also had a few first-team all-district selections. Zac Perez-Clack (center), Jordan Johnson (tackle), J.T. Miller (guard) and Cameron Smith (tight end) earned first-team offense honors, while Miller (inside linebacker), Darrance James (cornerback), Jordan Johnson (tackle) and Zack Lopez (safety) picked up first-team defense accolades.

Several Apaches earned second-team honors as well. James (receiver), Damian Airhart (guard), Tyler Filla (tackle) and D.J. Gonzales (fullback) were second-team offense, while Airhart (inside linebacker), Clack (tackle), Gonzales (outside linebacker) and Matt Hillman (punter) were second-team defense selections.

Gonzales also had honorable mention selections. Hillman (quarterback), Francisco Diaz (fullback) and Coltin Russell were honorable mention offense, and Russell (cornerback), Ray Flores (end) and Chris Garcia (outside linebacker) were honorable mention defense.

The Apaches finished the year 6-4 with a 2-3 district record, and were three points away from a district championship. A 35-34 loss to La Grange and a 16-14 loss to Smithville ultimately prevented Gonzales from qualifying from the postseason for the second time in as many seasons.
