Cardinals open playoffs with shutout

SHINER — The Shiner St. Paul Cardinals dominated their first round of the playoffs as they took down Tomball Rosehill Christian 69-0. The Cardinals scored 56 points in the first half while completely shutting down the visiting Eagles.

T.J. Bell rushed for 198 yards, scoring three touchdowns while Austin Barton completed all three passes for touchdowns for 168 yards.

Catching those passes were Marco Ynclan, getting a 68-yard catch, Colton Machart for 58 yards and Ryan Bell for 42 yards.

Also getting scores were Ryan Geiger, Jed Janecek, Nathan Wagner and Tre’Zell Jenkins-Perry who all had rushing touchdowns.

The Cardinals defense held Rosehill Christian to two yards on the ground and 41 yards over the air. Eagles’ quarterback Cash Kelso went 5-of-22 for 41 yards and two interceptions.

Shiner St. Paul advances to take on Austin Texas School for the Deaf. They last played Oct. 9 during district, with the Cardinals beating Austin TSD 49-0. They play Friday at Giddings, with kickoff set at 7:30 p.m.
