It wasn’t even close.

That’s the way it was for a trio of area high school football contests on Friday as all three games were decided in lopsided fashion. Shiner and St. Paul both reigned victorious, while Nixon-Smiley suffered a setback.

St. Paul 40, Cypress Christian 0

The Cardinals shut down Cypress Christian’s high-octane passing attack and limited the Warriors to 56 yards of total offense in a 40-0 rout Friday at Comanche Stadium in Shiner.

Friday’s contest also was the annual homecoming game for St. Paul (2-2).

Martin Kennedy started the scoring for the Cardinals as he rumbled his way into the endzone from 60 yards out to give his team a 7-0 lead with 4:22 remaining in the first quarter. Early in the second quarter, Adam Hollenbach got into the scoring act with a 35-yard touchdown run to put St. Paul up 14-0 at the 11:37 mark of the period.

Kennedy struck again late in the second quarter with a 13-yard touchdown run to give the Cardinals a 21-0 lead with 28 seconds remaining before halftime. St. Paul led 21-0 at the half.

Hollenbach gave a déjà vu experience to the crowd as he once again scored from 35 yards out to increase the Cardinals’ lead to 27-0 at the 4:36 mark of the third quarter. Dylan Barton scored 16 seconds later on a 50-yard interception return to make it 34-0 St. Paul with 4:20 left in the third.

Hollenbach scored the game’s final touchdown from three yards out with 9:23 left in the fourth quarter. He led all rushers with 176 yards and three scores on 14 carries.

In addition to Hollenbach, Mitchell McElroy completed 5-of-7 passes for 107 yards, while Kennedy ran nine times for 97 yards and two touchdowns and caught two passes for a game-high 60 yards. Barton also caught two passes for 46 yards.

The Cardinals open TAPPS District 5-Division III play against Brazos Christian at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Bryan.

Shiner 32, Thrall 6

The Comanches’ signature rushing attack was on par to the tune of 406 yards on 43 carries in a 32-6 rout of Thrall Friday in Thrall. Shiner (4-1) also limited the Tigers to 96 yards of total offense, including just 4 rushing.

Trevion Flowers provided a quick spark for the Comanches as he scored from 57 yards out to give his team a 6-0 lead at the 9:33 mark of the second quarter. Marcus Coleman followed with a 52-yard touchdown run to increase the Shiner lead to 12-0 with 6:41 left in the period.

Jacob Stafford scored on a 7-yard run to put the Comanches up 18-0 at the 3:55 mark of the second quarter. Shiner led 18-0 at halftime.

Stafford added a 16-yard touchdown run with 7:12 left in the third quarter to put his team up 25-0. Caleb Curtis rumbled into the endzone from seven yards out to give the Comanches their final score of the night and put them up 32-0 with 8:21 left in the fourth quarter.

Thrall (2-3) finally got on the scoreboard with 4:52 left to play as Joe Salazar hit Lane Hobbs for a 28-yard touchdown. The score proved to be the lone bright spot for the Tigers.

Flowers led all rushers with 161 yards on 11 carries. Stafford (13-89, 2 TDs), Curtis (8-60, TD) and Coleman (5-58, TD) also stood out for the run-heavy Comanches.

Shiner holds its annual homecoming game on Friday as it hosts Weimar at 7:30 p.m. at Comanche Stadium.

Karnes City 42, Nixon-Smiley 0

The Mustangs had a page stolen out of their playbook as Karnes City ran for 266 yards and four touchdowns on 49 carries in a 42-0 victory in the District 15-2A-Division II opener for both teams Friday at Mustang Stadium in Nixon. Nixon-Smiley (0-4, 0-1 in 15-2A-DII) operates out of the slot-T offense, and prides itself in controlling the clock with long, run-oriented drives.

The Badgers, who operate out of the spread offense, reversed that trend on Friday. They also limited the Mustangs to 22 yards rushing on 27 carries.

K.D. Glenn scored the first touchdown of the game on a 32-yard run to give Karnes City (3-1, 1-0 in 15-2A-DII) a 6-0 lead at the 5:01 mark of the first quarter. The Badgers added another score at the 3:55 mark of the second quarter as Dylan Lopez hit Phillip Vaughan for a 15-yard score. Glenn added the two-point conversion to make it 14-0.

Karnes City struck again on a 3-yard touchdown run from Dylan Wright with 2:41 left before halftime. The Badgers led 21-0 at halftime.

Vaughan returned an interception 35 yards for a touchdown to give his team a 28-0 lead at the 6:33 mark of the third quarter. In the fourth quarter, Karnes City added two more touchdowns thanks to a 14-yard run form Nick Adams and a 36-yarder from Wright.

Glenn led all rushers with 115 yards on 19 carries. Nick Pena led the Mustangs with 14 yards on eight carries.

Nixon-Smiley visits Dilley at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Dilley.
