Sandi's Country Fried News/Belmont VFD Fundraiser this Saturday

ANNOUNCEMENTS: The Belmont Volunteer Fire Department Fundraiser is this Saturday, Sept. 18, with BBQ plates being sold from 5-8 p.m. with the auction to follow.

This event takes place in downtown Belmont, usually at Oliver’s Pecan House.  So come out and support your local volunteer fire department. Of course, there are plates to go, but it is more fun to eat there and talk to your neighbors and participate in the auction.

The Leesville Country Fair is set for Oct. 9, at the old Methodist Church grounds in Leesville.  Kick-off time will be 9 a.m..  This is a major fundraiser for the Leesville Country Fair and Cemetery Association.  The majority of the events will be held under the covered pavilions that are located next to the Leesville Cemetery. So you cannot let the weather be your excuse for not attending. There will be all kinds of food to eat, a couple of drawings to enter, a Moonwalk, a petting zoo, a country store, an auction (live and silent), music by the O’Neal Brothers, and time to spend with your friends and family.

The Belmont Ladies Club should have their regular meeting the fourth Tuesday of September at the Belmont Community Center at 2PM. I believe that charts out to be Sept 28th.  We have been having trouble getting our attendance organized.  Maybe now that the kids are in school and have to stick to a schedule, then we will have to do the same.

Please keep the following people in your prayers: Joe Gary Kotwig, Anna Lindemann, Shirley Dozier, Paul and Frances Allen; Joy Maynor, Sean, Kathy, Tony, and Daniel Black, Pam McKee, Aunt Betty Gandre, Susan Low Ward, the family of Mary Ann and Robert Day; the family of Luella Gandre, Our troops around the world and their families, and please bring peace and tranquility to our hearts; and pray for those who lost their lives and homes in the gas pipeline explosion.

I am glad to report that Joy Manor has her verve back.   She is working on a plan for Thanksgiving Dinner.  When I think about this, I realize that Joy is the wise one.  November will be here before we know it.  Joy will have a jump start on a lot of us and more time to dream about what food to fix etc.

They had a big reunion of Nixon graduates the last weekend in Seguin.  I think that it was the year of 1962 and held at the Holiday Inn.  I know that Lola Wilson thoroughly enjoyed the event.  Nelda Yaws from California attended.  I know that she had not seen a lot of the attendees in a long time. Louie Soefje, Jr. and wife Janet also attended.  It seems like everyone had a good time.

Well my shoulders are better, but far from well.  I send empathy and sympathy whom has or ever had bursitis.  I am going to have to do more research on these little parts of your joints and elsewhere.  I have a feeling that things are just plain wearing out.  I know that Michael Wilson has a birthday soon.  Butch Gandre is turning sixty-two on September 19th.  Butch has been looking forward to this birthday.  Mr. Clifton Raeke is going to have another birthday soon.  Now Mr. Clifton sets some kind of records.  He is still combining corn.  Mr. Clifton does the combining and his son, John Raeke, does the hauling. I know that a lot of people have been able to get all of their crops in and need to get it gathered before we have any more rain.  We sure were not expecting a hurricane of sorts to go through the middle of San Antonio.  The Gulf of Mexico is fixing to get active again.

Dililah is feeling her oats this morning.  Itsy can’t see straight, and I mean this literally.  His eyes don’t look crossed like several Siamese cats that I have had, but he definitely has some kind of problem with his eyes. Dililah and Itsy were playing and running and Itsy fell straight off the back of the lounge chair onto the floor. He just hit flat like Splat---.  Hugo went running over to see if he was okay.  Itsy just shook his head a little bit and got up with a stagger.  Samson is turning out to be a very beautiful shiny coated black cat and exceeds all of my expectations.  You can almost use him for a mirror because his hair is so shiny.

Have a good week and God Bless.
