Most college scholars aren’t freeloaders

Posted

Before too much time goes by, lest we forget, I want to express my most heart-felt sympathy for Mr. “What About Me” and his “nitwits” opinions from Oct. 16, 2015 Inquirer, View Points, page A4. I’m thinking he would rather have some first grade dropouts or nitwit druggies with scrambled brains in charge of his golden years! Or maybe choose some other state or country?

It is my opinion that most of our college scholars are knocking themselves out just trying to get educated. And for what?! So they can become freeloaders and live off our government; I don’t think so. My life span goes from horse drawn wagons to cars with no tops, and what people ride around in today. I “heartell” there is a car that needs no driver coming out soon? Sure I no longer grace these roads with my driving, maybe I could use one of these? My three daughters all went away to college and not one ever called me to bring a rat trap. They all had outside jobs while attending college and not one played football. I now know a college grad doing quite a fine job of rearing my great grandson while holding down a job outside her home. Her younger sisters, a dedicated school teacher and her baby sister is a college, Grade A, freshman, my grandson is a junior at a university this year, and his little sisters is a very active girl in high school trying to decide which college to attend next year. We have a set of 16-year-old grands, twins, still in high school. My husband served his country, as so many did in the 1950s, and it delayed his college until he already had a family to support while attending classes at a junior college. I went to night school while working and rearing three girls. Do not call us nitwits without hearing what I have to say! I hope there are a few people who appreciate what our young people are doing in a country like ours. “Train Up a Child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” (Proverbs 22:6 King James Version) a verse in 2nd Chronicles also fits our own country as well as in days of old. Chapter 7 and Verse 14 “If my people” etc.

Thanks for your time and space
