Salvador Ornales Cantu

Salvador Ornales Cantu, 73, of Gonzales was called to his rest on Thursday, July 6. He was born September 19, 1943 in Gonzales, the son of Adam and Inez Ornales Cantu.

Mr. Cantu leaves behind his loving wife Gloria Cantu of Gonzales; three sons Salvador Cantu Jr. of Luling, Manuel and Adam Cantu of Austin; three daughters Joann Cantu of Gonzales, Michele Cantu and Amy Torres of Austin; brothers Rudy Cantu of Houston, Alvara, Joe and Andrew Cantu of Austin; two sisters Annie Cantu and Mary Orona of Austin; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Domingo and Adam Cantu Jr. and one sister Helen Ontiveros.

Mr. Cantu enjoyed watching wrestling, war movies and football. His favorite teams were the Dallas Cowboys, Houston Texans and UT Longhorns. He also enjoyed taking his “Pride and Joy” granddaughter Mykayla Cantu riding around town chasing the ice cream truck. That was the only time you could catch him speeding.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Monday, July 10 at Seydler-Hill Funeral Home. A prayer vigil will start at 7 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 11 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Reverend Paul Raaz officiating. Interment will follow at the St. James Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers include Rudy Contrerras, Johnny Cantu, Josh Cantu, Charlie Hubert, Richard Banda and Albert Garcia. Arrangements under the care and direction of Seydler-Hill Funeral Home.
