Pedro “Pete” Ortiz Jr.

Pedro “Pete” Ortiz Jr., 63, of Gonzales, Texas passed away on Saturday, March 11 at the Texan Nursing & Rehab in Gonzales, Texas.

A memorial mass will be held on Thursday, March 30 at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Gonzales, Texas with Father Paul Raaz officiating. A rosary will be recited on Wednesday, March 29 at 7 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. 

Pete was born on August 16, 1953 in Gonzales, Texas. He was the son of Pedro and Manuela (DeLeon) Ortiz.  Pete liked listening to music on the radio, and watching the Dallas Cowboys, San Antonio Spurs, and the University of Texas Longhorns. He was a story teller and he could spin them like no one else. He liked to read, especially the Stephen King novels.

Pete is survived by one daughter; Erica Gillespie and her partner, Rick Bolanos of Richmond, Texas, two sisters; LTC Georgina Ortiz (Ret.) of San Antonio, Texas, Sipriana O. Rivera of San Antonio, Texas, three grandchildren; William Gillespie, Peighton Gillespie, Elliott Bolanos, and a cousin who was like a brother; Albert Ortiz and his wife, Sarah. He was preceded in death by his parents; Pedro and Manuela Ortiz, one brother, Lorenzo Ortiz, one sister; Juanita Villanueva.
