Luther Patrick “Pat” Epperson

Luther Patrick “Pat” Epperson of Harwood passed away on Saturday, April 23, 2016 at the age of 77. Pat was born to parents Jack and Mary-Velt Epperson on Nov. 5, 1938 in Talladega, Ala.  He grew up as one of nine children and attended Winterboro High School.

As a young man, Pat worked as a butcher at The Company Store in Sycamore, Ala. Later, he started his career in truck driving for Floyd and Beasley and was noted for driving more than one million miles during his tenure. 

In 1959, he married Gayle Frost and the couple had four children. In 1975, the family relocated to Houston where Pat owned and operated a wrecker service for a number of years. In 2000, he moved to Harwood where he enjoyed being surrounded by his family. He also enjoyed watching the Houston Texans during football season, working the land, and fishing with the company of his dogs.

Pat is survived by his daughters, Bonita Epperson Metcalfe (Richard), Selina Epperson (Rick), Roni Epperson; son, Keith Epperson (Sophia); siblings, Susie Jones, Jean Dunn and Jackie Epperson. Known to his grandchildren as Pop, he leaves behind eight grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild along with many friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Mary-Velt Epperson; sisters, Silvia Jones, Louise Patterson; brothers, Robert, Ted and Roy Lee Epperson. The family is grateful to Gladys Akers, mother-in-law, for her care during his illness.

The family invites you to join us for a celebration of the things Pat loved most in life- family, food, fishing and fun at the Flying W Ranch located at 2082 CR 438 in Harwood at 6 p.m. on Saturday, April 30. Rain date for the event will be Sunday, May 1 at noon. The family appreciates all prayers and condolences.
