Larry Daniel Jr., 75, of Gonzales, passed away peacefully at home Saturday, Feb. 4. Larry was born to Larry Daniel Sr. and Mary Susan Bartlett Daniel on July 22, 1941 in San Antonio. He married Betty Jo Stabeno on December 16, 1960 in Austin. Larry was a member of Memorial Heights Baptist Church, the American Federation of Teacher’s Union, and the Retired Teachers Association.

Though he was born in San Antonio, Larry was raised in Houston and Austin. His father was DPS Officer and Larry enjoyed listening to his father’s harrowing tales of serving in this capacity. He enjoyed growing up around the Texas Governor’s Mansion and befriending the Governor’s children. Larry went to work for the City of Austin before starting a 31-year career with the Austin Independent School District in Heating Maintenance. While living in Austin Larry and his wife were active in their church and frequently worked in the church’s bus ministry. In 1997 Larry and his wife moved to Gonzales where they settled down before he retired in 1999. Larry enjoyed reading books, especially his bible and loving his dogs. He was a firm believer in teaching his children how to fend for themselves in maintaining their vehicles and performing some plumbing and home repairs. Larry was a stern but very loving father and grandfather. He was always there to meet the needs of his family. Larry was generous in caring for those in need, a practice he instilled in his children. Larry never met a stranger and would readily welcome most as friends within minutes of meeting them.

Larry Daniel Jr. is survived by his wife, Betty Joe Daniel of Gonzales, daughters, Bobbie Daniel of Garland, Donna Sue Olsen of Gonzales and Nancy Elizabeth Devon (Mike) of Georgetown, son, Todd Alan Daniel (Dallas) of Mentor, OH, brother, Clarence Ferguson of Lincoln, CA, grandchildren, Michael Daniel, Bobby Jo Barrs, Jr., Seth Edward Laundy, Caleb Devon, Sarah Laundy, Alex Devon, Noah Daniel, and Xoe Daniel and a great-grandchild, Ezra Barrs. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Terrie Daniel, and a sister, Christine Cannon.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8 in Seydler-Hill Funeral Home with Rev. Clint Lowery officiating. Interment will be in Gonzales Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 9-11 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home chapel. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 2451 Crystal Drive, Suite 900, Arlington, VA 22202.
