John Russell Carson & Beverly Ann Reed Carson

Posted

John and Beverly Carson of San Antonio, both 76 years old, went to be with our Lord and Savior Friday, July 7, at 9 p.m. Their tragic, single car accident occurred on a scenic country road between Gonzales and Seguin. They were returning to San Antonio from their beloved family ranch.

John Russell Carson was born into a historic ranching family, with ties to the Chisholm Trail and the Texas Rangers, to John Henry and Ora Carson November 20, 1940, in Cuero, Texas.

After graduating from Cuero High School, John served in the United States Military while attending the University of Texas at Austin. He chose to continue the family legacy of both ranching and pharmacy by becoming the 7th pharmacist in the Carson family.

Beverly Ann Reed Carson was born to James Seymour and Adeline Reed on January 5, 1941, in San Antonio, Texas. Beverly graduated Jefferson High School and then attended the University of Texas at Austin with a degree in education.

John and Beverly’s love story began when they first meet in biology class and then they were married at Trinity Baptist Church in 1964. Their lifelong love for each other was paralleled with their deep love for the Lord and their strong Christian faith. After completing their studies and marrying, they began to create their life in San Antonio. Beverly initially taught high school English and typing followed by a career working with her husband running the pharmacy. In 1969, John and Beverly opened Oakdell Pharmacy. The pharmacy was an integral part of their entire life. They had a strong sense of service for others in the community and created deep friendships with people all over the country. Professionally, John served in leadership positions in pharmacy on the local, state, and national level which lead him to become one of the most influential independent pharmacy owners in our nation.

But aside all the accomplishments professionally, John and Beverly’s greatest accomplishment was raising their children, Lisa and Jeff. They loved being parents and their home was always full of laughter and love. But for everybody who knew John and Beverly, their love story became complete when they became grandparents and took on the new role of GB and Pop. They were devoted to the grandkids, sharing in all their milestones and accomplishments. Pop and GB shared a love of travel with their family by taking many trips both in the US and abroad, creating a lifetime of memories with their children and grandchildren. They never missed a family birthday and they were always together.

None of us will ever be the same. Not because they have left us, but because, hand-in-hand, they lived so fully and loved everyone around them so deeply.

They are survived by their daughter Lisa Carson Wolff, her husband Jim Wolff and granddaughters Barrett Allison Wolff and Carson Elizabeth Wolff; their son John Jeffrey Carson and his wife Amy Carson and grandsons John Tyler Carson and Ryan Connor Carson; and Beverly’s brother Jimmy Reed; along with countless members of their extended family and friends.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 13 at 9 a.m. at Oak Hills Church.

Funeral service will be Thursday, July 13 at 10 a.m. at Oak Hills Church, 19595 West IH-10, San Antonio, Texas. Graveside service will follow at 3 p.m. in the Bellevue Cemetery in Cheapside, Texas. There will be a gathering at the family ranch afterwards.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to NCPA in honor of John and Beverly Carson.
