Floyd Alvin Shaver, 70, of Gonzales, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 21. He was born August 10, 1946 in Leesville, the son of Joe Floyd Shaver and Frances Janie Brister Shaver. He married Ruby Lee Malatek April 16, 1966 at St. James Catholic Church in Gonzales.

He was a licensed plumber and worked for several years in Gonzales. He later went to work for Cal-Maine in the maintenance department first for seven years at the Gonzales plant and from 2000 until 2008 at the plant in Waelder. He was an accomplished gardener and raised a large garden every year. He enjoyed fishing the Guadalupe River and hunting every year.

Floyd was always busy with building projects and was a jack of all trades. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife Ruby Lee Shaver of Gonzales; daughter Donna Sue Pakebusch and husband Willie of Kingsville; mother and step-father Janie and Bob Steed of Leesville; sister Diane Heckman and husband Carl of Marion; brother Fred Shaver and wife Sharon of Dayton and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his precious dog “Chewleen.”

He was preceded in death by his father and his sister Terry Dale Price. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 24 with the rosary being recited at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 25 at Seydler-Hill Funeral Home with Reverend Paul Raaz officiating. Interment will be at Gonzales Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers include Gary Malatek, Billy Rhoades, Derrick Heckman, Bruce Tieken, Al Pakebusch Jr. and Commie Hisey. Memorials may be made to St. James Catholic Church or donor’s choice of charities. Arrangements under the care and direction of Seydler-Hill Funeral Home.
