George David Torres, Jr., 30, passed away Tuesday, July 12, 2011 in San Antonio.  George was born April 30, 1981 in Gonzales to George David Torres, Sr. and Sarah Ann Arriola Torres.

George was a graduate of Gonzales High School’s Class of 1999.  He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 2010 from Texas State University majoring in Applied Sociology with a minor in Social Work.

George married Angela Celina Perez on June 21, 2008 in San Marcos with his very good friend and spiritual leader Fr. Frank Macias officiating the wedding ceremony and mass.

George had been very active in the Catholic Church where he served as lecture and Eucharistic minister. He had also served as a Youth Leader and CCD teacher.

He was one of three of the youngest Gonzales Little League Coaches in recent memory. George had worked as a Teacher’s Aide for the Gonzales Independent School System and as a coach for the Gonzales Junior Varsity High School Softball team for five years.

At Texas State University he served as a very active member of the Sigma Beta Chapter of the Sigma Lambda Beta Fraternity, where he honorably served as Community Service Chair, Alumni Liaison, New Member Educator and President of the Chapter.

George David Torres, Jr. gave of himself all the time, family and friends always came before his own needs, he was completely selfless in that regard.  He was a trusted confidant and loyal companion to his friends, a best friend and role model to his brothers, a caring, loving and respectful son to his parents and the sweetest most tender man on Earth to his adoring wife.

George loved to bar-b-que, but he loved his Dallas Cowboys more and if it were possible to watch a Cowboys game and bar-b-que at the same time, then he was in Heaven.

George was a larger then life man with a heart filled with compassion for others.  To lose a man with his innate ability to light up the world with his gentle touch or infectious smile is indeed a tragedy, not to have known him at all, is a calamitous misfortune.

George is survived by his loving wife, Angela Celina Torres of San Antonio; his parents, George David Torres, Sr. and Sarah Ann Torres of Gonzales; grandmother, Emilia Tabera Arriola of Gonzales; brothers, Christopher Jonathan Torres of Austin and Michael Lee Torres of Gonzales.  He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jesse Arriola, Faustino and Eliosa Torres, and his uncles, Martin and Gregorio Torres.

A rosary was recited for him Thursday evening at Seydler-Hill Funeral Home with Deacon Terry Brennon presiding; a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Friday, July 15, 2011 in St. James Catholic Church Fr. Paul Raaz as celebrant.  Interment will follow in St. James Catholic Cemetery.

Pallbearers include:  Christopher, Michael and Wayne Torres, Jeremy Riojas, Justin Navejar, Chris Olmos, Carlos Flores, David San Miguel and Michael Matamoros.  Honorary pallbearers are his brothers of the Sigma Lambda Beta Fraternity.

The family had received friends from 6 to 8 at the funeral home Thursday evening.  Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association 10900-B Stonelake Blvd., Suite 320 Austin, TX  78759 or American Diabetes Association, P.O.
