Long time Luling and Seguin resident Charlie Brice “Pete” Streety passed away peacefully early Wednesday, June 19 at Remarkable Health Center in Seguin with family at his side. Private graveside services were held Saturday, June 22 at the Woodmen of the World Cemetery in Gonzales. Fred Pratt officiated.

Pallbearers were Mark Streety, Mack Streety, Mike Streety, Jason Streety, Matthew Streety, and Zachary Streety.

Pete was born in Cuero on July 24, 1928 to Brice Reagan Streety and Hilma Alice Mutschler; grew up near Smiley; and graduated from Prairie Lea High School in 1945. He then served in the United States Marine Corps during peacetime following WWll and again during the Korean War. In the Marines he earned sharpshooter status and the rank of Sergeant. His sons and daughter were later taught the meaning of “shipshape” and “squared away” as to proper manners, handshakes, shining of shoes, combing of hair, and making their beds. After his honorable discharge from the service he lived in Gonzales where he met Mary Ann Finch. They were married at the First Methodist Church in Gonzales on July 12, 1953.

Pete served as Baker Oil Tools’ District Manager in Luling for 19 years. He bled Baker’s blue and yellow colors and thought the company was the best anywhere. Having worked in the oil patch from age 16, he enjoyed acquiring geological knowledge that was later used in formation of his own small independent business- M-5 Oil Company, Inc. He also raised a few head of cattle, most of them pets, on 100 acres of post oak land he cleared west of Luling. Keeping oil production logs and tracking livestock breeding cycles helped his strong numbers sense remain very keen.

Pete served his community as Administrative Board Trustee at First United Methodist Church for many years, Little League Board for 10 summers- including President, Luling School Board for eight years- including Secretary, and Jaycees-including President. A member of the First United Methodist Church for over 50 years, he was also a 50 year member of the American Legion Post 177 in Luling. During retirement, he was a steady supporter of the Luling Oil Museum, American Red Cross, Salvation Army, and Guadalupe County Humane Society.

Though he worked very hard all his life, Pete introduced his sons to the great game of golf and enjoyed schooling them regularly at the domino table, especially leading off a game of count dominoes with a Harwood nickel. He also enjoyed rooting for his favorite football teams- Huskers, Aggies, Bears, Cowboys. He and Mary Ann much enjoyed family visits and their own getaways to Kerrville and Hot Springs,AR.

In his own words, Pete’s greatest accomplishment and joy was raising his and Mary Ann’s four children, and successfully seeing all four of them through college( in 10 years) and getting to witness each of them becoming “good hands” in their careers of hospitals, banking, oil, and philanthropy.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Mary Ann Streety of Seguin; sons, Mark Alan (Angelia Thompson MD) of Lexington, Ken., Mack Lane( Sherri) of Russellville, Ark., and Mike Lee of Lumberton, Texas; daughter Melodie Ann Turish of Ormond Beach, Fla.; grandchildren Jessica Brun(Andy), Jason Brice Streety (Kristin), Ellyse Streety, Matthew Lee Streety, and Zachary Douglas Lane Streety; a great-grandson Cooper Brun; and a brother Richard Lee Streety of Marble Falls.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister- Erma Jean Watson of Baton Rouge, La.

Arrangements were with care and courtesy of O’Bannon Funeral Home, Inc., Luling.

Though the dinner table will have an empty chair this holiday season, we will be giving thanks and counting many blessings of memories, honor, respect, and love for our dad and husband.

We miss you Pete/ Dad/ Poppy and we’ll see you again in a better place.

For the family,

Mark Streety
