Janice Ruth Kuck, 81, of Shiner, passed away Tuesday, Febr. 17, 2015 at DeTar-Navarro Hospital in Victoria.

Cremation rites are under the direction of Buffington Funeral Home in Shiner. A Memorial service will be held Sunday, February 22 at 2 p.m. at Dr. Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Shiner with Reverend Elaine Gomulka officiating. There will be a visitation at 1 p.m. prior to the service.

Janice was born March 28, 1933 in Charlottenburg, Texas. She was the daughter of Walter and Ruth (Pietsch) Breitkreutz. After high school, where she played volleyball, Janice attended TLC in Seguin and later obtained her nursing degree. She worked as a nurse for five years until she married Walter Kuck in Cuero at Saint Mark’s Lutheran Church on June 15, 1958.

She was a farmer and rancher with her husband, as well as a homemaker and mother. She was a hard worker who was an excellent cook and baker. Janice also enjoyed canning the fruits and vegetables from her garden. She liked to read and quilt. “Miss Janice,” as she was called by her caregivers, lost an epic 14 year battle to cancer.

Janice is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Walter Kuck; sons, Michael Kuck and his wife, Barbara of Luling and Robert Kuck and his wife, April of LaGrange; daughters, Carol Martin and her husband, Delbert of Cuero and Susan Sankey and her husband, Lee of Sterling, Kan.; brother, Robert Breitkreutz and wife, Donna of Myrtle Point, Ore.; seven grandchildren, Kristopher, Shelly and her husband Nathan, Katelyn, Lindsey, Reagan, Gretchen and Garrett; great-grandchild, Noah; special friends, the Lords, the Knandels, the Harrisons, and beloved friends of the Cheapside Community. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Ruth Breitkreutz.

Memorials may be made to the Dr. Martin Luther Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 26, Shiner, Texas 77984, or to a charity of choice.
