Juan L. Camarillo

Juan L. Camarillo, 78, of Gonzales, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013, at DeTar-Navarro Hospital in Victoria.

Juan was born March 30, 1934, in Gonzales, the son of Ascencion and Herlinda Camarillo. He married Juanita Zertuche in Gonzales in 1957. Juan loved having barbecues and drinking his beer while listening to Norteno music. He loved his children. Juan married Ruth Ganoe in Gonzales in 1989. He was a “Jack of all Trades” who could take care of his garden and efficiently operate 18 different pieces of heavy equipment.

Juan is survived by his wife of 26 years, Ruth; sons Carlos A. Camarillo and wife Veronica Sue of Gonzales, Andy Camarillo and wife Isabel of Kyle, Freddy Camarillo and wife Yvette of Friendswood, and Juan C. Camarillo of Austin; daughters Linda Bazan and husband Gerald of Gonzales, Carmen A. Rivera and husband Ricky of Gonzales, Rosa E. Beltran of Georgetown, Rita D. Velasquez and husband Lupe of Austin, Dora Leticia Gomez of Gonzales, and MaryLou Jaramillo and husband Jesse of Richmond; brothers Mike Camarillo of Gonzales and Victor Camarillo of Dallas; sister Victoria Camarillo Martinez of Bay City; 26 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ascencion and Herlinda Camarillo; step-mother Nicholas Camarillo; and brother Santos Camarillo.

Funeral Mass was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 3, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Gonzales, with Father Paul Raaz officiating. Cremation rites followed. A Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 2, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with Deacon Terry Brennan officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Buffington Funeral Home.
