Imogene Nattrass, 88, of Gonzales, passed away Monday, March 30, 2015. Imogene was born Nov. 19, 1926 in Rivesville, W.V. to George and Bertha Hawkins Ash. Imogene married William Scott Nattrass, Sr. on April 19, 1946 in Oakland, Maryland.

Imogene grew up in a small town in West Virginia. After having met and appropriately courted by William Scott Nattrass at the age of 20 she agreed to marry and they drove across the border into Maryland to be married by an ordained minister.

Her husband was active duty in the USAF and this brought them to be stationed in many locations through out his career. Children were born to this union while they were stationed in Anchorage, Flint, Mich., Washington D.C., Beaumont and Mission. No matter where they were stationed, Imogene always made their accommodations a home, a comfort zone for her family to grow in a loving family environment.

She loved crafts and crocheted each of her children an afghan and sewed all her daughter’s clothing until she began high school. She was a “Star Trek” enthusiast and enjoyed keeping a garden with her husband and baking for her family. She enjoyed family camping trips and the beauty of nature.

Imogene held various jobs outside of being a full time wife and mother. She worked a number of years as a librarian in the Sharyland, Texas ISD and held a beauticians license as well, though she never held a driver’s license.

Imogene was genuine caregiver. She cared for her son George after nearly losing him in a car accident. She helped nurse him back to health and see that he finished college and get his teaching certificate.

She loved doting over her children and grandchildren. Upon any visit she always wanted to see that everyone was fed. Imogene was a loving, honest and wonderful woman and she never turned her back on her family. She was a living testament to the values one receives from growing up in rural America with strong family values.

Imogene Nattrass is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Kathy Lynn Zella and Mike of Gonzales; sons, William Scott Nattrass, Jr., of Gonzales, Kenneth Clark Nattrass of Seagoville and Richard Allen Nattrass of Orange Grove; grandchildren, Wade Zella, Jennifer Sprayberry, Megan Nattrass, Amanda Cole, Scott Nattrass, Skylar Zella and Kimberly Nattrass; great-grandchildren, Kamrynn Zella, Cordin Nattrass, Harley Nattrass, Paityn Magyar, Lexi Cole, Kylee Cole and Tanner Sprayberry.
