Neoma “Ruth” Dullnig

Neoma “Ruth” Dullnig, 97, of Gonzales, passed away Friday, April 10, 2015. She was born Oct. 26, 1917 in Wrightsboro, the daughter of Wiley Franklin and Indiana Belle Bennett May. 

She attended school in Cost and often rode to class in the family buggy. She graduated from Cost High School.

After graduation she moved to Gonzales and worked with her sister Lois for the NYA Project, part of Franklin D. Roosevelt’s New Deal. She met the love of her life, Emil Walter Dullnig at a house dance and they were married on Sept. 19, 1939. 

They moved to San Antonio on the day after the attack on Pearl Harbor where Emil worked at Kelly AFB. They were blessed with two children, Marilyn Ruth in 1944 and Leslie Ray in 1950. Emil passed away on Nov. 29, 1972 and a year later Ruth moved back to Gonzales to be close to her sister Lois and sister-in-law Lillian Bolado.

She was an excellent seamstress and was known for her professional skills and detailed work. Most of all she was a loving mom and grandmother. Her family meant everything to her and she was very dedicated to them all. She moved to Buda in 2007 to be close to her son as her health began to decline. 

She is survived by her son Dr. Leslie Dullnig and wife Cyndi of Mountain City, Texas; son-in-law Daniel P. West Sr. and wife Karen of Magnolia; grandchildren, Daniel P. West Jr. of Houston, Tamara Ruth Lumpkin of Montgomery, Andrew W. Dullnig of Silver Spring, Maryland and Benjamin Dullnig of Vista, Calif.; four great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded by her parents, husband; daughter, Marilyn Ruth West; sisters, Ruby May and Lois Bundick and brothers Clifton, Ernest and Elmer May. 

Visitation will be held Friday, April 17 from 6 until 8 p.m. at Seydler-Hill Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, April 18 at the funeral home. Interment will follow at the Monthalia Lutheran Cemetery. Pallbearers include Daniel P. West Jr., Andrew Dullnig, Benjamin Dullnig, Pat Lumpkin, John Benzer and Bryan Zella.
